Assistant Accountant

JOB PURPOSE: Reporting to the Financial Controller, you will be part of a small finance team that is responsible for the accounting of Mercia’s parent and subsidiary companies, operating in a fast-paced, professional environment where everyone collaborates to drive the business forward. As Assistant Accountant you will be responsible for a variety of tasks, ensuring that at all times, appropriate controls and processes are adhered to.

JOB PROFILE:

  • Preparation and processing of fee invoices to investee companies
  • Monitoring cash received and updating the sales ledger
  • Chasing outstanding payments and producing debtor reports
  • Inputting and processing purchase ledger invoices
  • Inputting and processing employee expense claims
  • Obtaining authorisations and processing payment runs for the above
  • Bank, credit card and petty cash reconciliations
  • Inputting of monthly journals
  • Assisting with the preparation of management accounts
  • Assisting with the year end and interim audits
  • Support the Financial Controller and Finance Team with any ad hoc projects
  • General office administration

 JOB HOLDER (Qualifications, Experience & Skills):

Qualifications and experience:

  • Recently qualified or studying towards a recognised accounting qualification
  • Previous experience of working within a finance department
  • Experience of working in small finance teams, requiring a hands on approach, preferable

Skills

  • Sound evaluation and analytical skills
  • Very strong Excel skills
  • Good working knowledge of other Microsoft Office products
  • Good working knowledge of Sage Line 50
