About

Formerly CEO of Enterprise Ventures ahead of its acquisition by Mercia. Jonathan has led and managed a substantial portfolio of successful private equity and venture capital investments. A significant proportion of this portfolio lies in the less affluent regions of the UK, where success has been achieved not only through the generation of attractive financial returns, but also through the jobs that have been created in growing SMEs, making a sustainable and long-term contribution to the UK economy.

Previous experience

Jonathan studied Law at Oxford University and has an MA in Jurisprudence. He spent 12 years in practice as a solicitor in the public and private sectors and the last 28 years as a fund manager with Murray Johnstone, Aberdeen Asset Management and Enterprise Ventures. In that time he raised more than £900.0million of private equity and venture capital funds worldwide, from institutional and Government sources, for investment in the UK. Jonathan was a member of the Council of the British Venture Capital Association (BVCA) and chaired the BVCA Legal & Technical Committee. He was chair of the Community Development Finance Association (CDFA, now Responsible Finance) from 2011 to 2015 and is a member of the North West Regional Council for the Confederation of British Industry (CBI).
