Gemma works as part of the EIS/VCT Team as an EIS/VCT Client Services Administrator. Gemma is responsible for providing investor services to our tax-efficient products and operational support for a smooth running of funds.

Previous experience

Gemma has 15 years’ experience within financial services, managing corporate clients. With level 3 qualifications in Customer Services and Business Administration.

About

Rafael is an Investment Manager for Mercia’s EIS Fund with a focus on investing in early and growth-stage technology companies. Based in the South-West, Rafael’s role includes portfolio support, deal origination and execution.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Rafael worked at Development Bank of Wales, focussing on making equity investments into early stage technology companies.

Rafael spent five years as part of the Deal Advisory team at KPMG, advising on the buying and selling of companies. He also worked for a managed services and cloud computing company, supporting them with their buy and build acquisition strategy.

Rafael has a degree in Economics from Warwick University and is a Chartered Accountant.

About

Adam joined Mercia in November 2021, following two and a half years working in the investment team at Wealth Club. During this time Adam sourced, transacted and managed numerous EIS investments, with a focus on technology businesses.

Having joined the VCT investment team in 2021, he now focuses on sourcing, transacting, and managing investments.

Previous experience

Prior to Wealth Club, Adam trained at EY in Bristol as a Chartered Accountant, working in financial services audit before spending two years in Deloitte’s Financial Advisory team in Restructuring. Adam graduated from the University of Southampton with a 1st class BSc in Economics.

About

Julian joined the Group in 2016 and is the Investment Principal for EIS with responsibility for the wider Midlands region. His focus is to invest in high-growth technology businesses across the whole of the area, with a particular focus on the Software & the Internet, and the Electronics, Materials, Manufacturing & Engineering sectors. Julian currently sits on the Board of W2 Global Data, VoxPopMe and Living Map.

Previous experience

Prior to joining the Mercia, Julian was a partner with Technology Venture Partners LLP based in Bristol, which managed the South West Ventures Fund (SWVF). The SWVF primarily invested in early-stage technology-focused businesses and university spinouts in software, electronics, medical diagnostics, telematics and semiconductors. He was an associate director for KPMG Corporate Finance in London and Sydney between 2000 and 2006.
