About

Ben joined the Group in 2021 as Financial Controller of Mercia Fund Management Limited and the three Northern Venture Capital Trusts.

Previous experience

Ben was previously Financial Controller at Hall Bros Estate Management Ltd, where he led the team in all aspects of financial control and reporting.
Prior to Hall Bros, Ben was assistant Finance Director at Redevco UK with responsibilities for corporate reporting and also has extensive experience at Chelsfield plc and PwC.
Ben has a BA in Economics from Leeds University, and is a Chartered Accountant.

About

Joining Mercia in November 2021, Justine is a Fund Administrator. She supports the Investment Team with deal preparation and completion, the maintenance of records, and the development, coordination and production of both external and internal reports. Justine is based at Mercia’s head office in Henley-in-Arden.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Justine has experience in office management/sales support, predominantly in the Lighting Industry. For a period of nine years Justine supported both the Managing Director/Sales Director and Sales team of a lighting company, initially as a Business Development Executive, then as a Personal Assistant and Sales Co-ordinator. She has worked in other industries including higher education and engineering consultants.

About

Stefan Helm joined Mercia in 2021 to streamline all things digital in the Mercia EIS Fund, including the website, the digital application process and reporting.

Stefan also works with advisers to enable their clients to invest with Mercia, supporting regional technology companies to fulfil their potential, while also benefiting from the attractive EIS tax reliefs.

Previous experience

Stefan has previously worked for AFH Wealth Management, as well as tax consultancy Gateley Capitus. Stefan has an MSc from Manchester Metropolitan University and studied Politics with International Relations at Lancaster University.

About

Clare was previously a financial adviser and has joined Mercia to assist financial advisers who wish to offer tax-efficient investments to their clients. She is able to offer support with events and development of knowledge in this space and is keen to broaden relationships with advisers and Mercia.

Previous experience

Clare is an experienced Business Development Manager, whom also had an extensive career as an Independent Financial Adviser. She has worked for HSBC for many years as an IFA and then Lighthouse Group. In more recent years she has turned her hand to Business Development within the EIS arena, and having offered these solutions to her own clients as an IFA, she is well positioned to support others to do the same.

Mark joined Mercia in July 2021 and is based at our office in Henley-in-Arden. Mark plays a key supporting role in our People & Talent team, focusing on career development and training for the Group. Mark is responsible for our new Learning Management System implementation..

Previous experience

Mark has a background in both the education and information technology sectors. He has experience of delivering learning and development across organisations using a range of methods and technologies. His most recent role was for a specialist software company, with responsibility for both internal and external training and development.

Joining Mercia in June 2021, Paula is Executive Assistant to our Chief Operating Officer and Chief Investment Officer, providing confidential support and diary management.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Paula was an Executive Assistant with experience in working in corporate, and commercial settings within the live events, catering and hospitality sector.  A trusted and dependable team member with both C-level executives and management, who can be relied upon in confidential and sensitive situations.  Experience in dealing with complex diary management, travel itineraries, purchasing, taking board minutes, project support, event co-ordination, dealing with customer complaints and customer service.

Grace joined the Group as Associate Legal Counsel in May 2021. Grace provides legal advice across the Group and the portfolio and supports Sarah Williams, the Group’s General Counsel. Grace is based at the Henley-in-Arden office.

Previous experience

Grace completed her solicitor training with Gowling WLG (UK) LLP and qualified as a corporate solicitor in 2017. Grace has significant experience of advising clients (from large corporates and private equity investors to individual business owners) on a wide range of corporate transactional matters, including investments, acquisitions, disposals and restructurings. Prior to joining Gowling WLG, Grace began her legal career at Eversheds LLP. Grace has an LLB in Law with Politics from the University of Manchester.

 

Anna is a Partner at international law firm Addleshaw Goddard LLP and was previously a corporate partner at Pinsent Masons and McGrigors. She is a corporate lawyer with over 25 year experience in a wide range of corporate transactions for private and public companies. This includes supporting start up and growth companies, particularly in the technology and life science sectors, and their management teams, through all stages of growth and development, fundraising, M&A, strategic and financial challenges. She has a particular focus on equity capital markets transactions including AIM IPOs, secondary fundraisings and takeovers and increasingly provides counsel  on governance matters and engagement with stakeholders.

Anna joined the Northern VCT 3 Board in September 2020.

 

 

 

John was until 2015 chief executive of Archangel Investors Limited, a Scottish based syndicate of individual private investors, and sits on the boards of numerous unquoted companies. He also advises two early stage funds and was previously a director of Noble Grossart Limited.

He was appointed to the board in 2007.

About

Ross is responsible for all aspects of Mercia Asset Management PLC’s management accounting and financial reporting, and ensuring the integrity of the group’s internal control environment.

Previous experience

Ross is an EY trained Chartered Accountant holding over 10 years’ financial reporting, internal controls and company financing experience, including a number of listed debt and equity raises. Areas of expertise include coaching and developing finance teams alongside internal policies and procedures in listed environments.
