About

Sharon joined the Group in 2017 as Management Accountant based at the Henley-In-Arden office. She is responsible for the purchase ledger, sales ledger, cashbook entries, fixed asset register and the monthly management accounts for Mercia Asset Management PLC. During the monthly reporting process, Sharon prepares the management accounts for a small fund within the group. In addition, she is responsible for the monthly payroll administration and pension account control reconciliation. Sharon also assists in the preparation of the annual statutory accounting and reporting for the Group and the external audit process.

Previous experience

Sharon is a CIMA qualified accountant previously working within the Financial Services Industry and the Charitable Sector.

About

Srikar is an Investment Associate for Mercia’s EIS Team with a focus on investing in early and growth-stage software and digital companies. In addition to deal origination and execution, Srikar sits on the board of a number of companies within Mercia’s EIS portfolio.

Previous experience

Srikar joined Mercia in 2018 as a Research Analyst for Mercia’s Platform team after graduating from LSE with a Maths and Economics degree. As part of this role he worked closely with Exec team on Mercia’s acquisition of NVM’s VCTs and producing valuation reports for Mercia’s direct investment holdings.

Biography

Jonathan brings extensive experience in the technology sector, originally in both finance director and chief executive roles and latterly in investing in and helping to scale up technology ventures. Having qualified as a chartered accountant at PwC, Jonathan gained significant executive experience, firstly in senior finance positions at Convergys Corporation (NYSE – CVG), Geneva Technology Ltd, Thomas Cook Retail Ltd and Semitool Inc. He then became CEO at Datanomic Ltd, where he oversaw a twenty-fold increase in the company’s global customer base and compound revenue growth of 105% over a four-year period, before being purchased byOracle Inc (NYSE – ORCL) in 2011. Since leaving Oracle Inc in 2012, Jonathan has founded his own early-stage technology investment vehicle, Thorium Technology Investors, and currently sits on the boards of
a number of young technology businesses.

Jonathan has a degree in zoology with marine zoology from the University of Wales, Bangor and a PhD in cell proliferation from the University of East Anglia. Jonathan has considerable venture and private equity investing experience, both as a CFO and CEO of private equity-backed businesses that have successfully exited, and also as the founder
of a technology focused venture angel investor group.

About

Stephen joined the Group in 2019 as an Investment Manager for the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) team, focusing on proof of concept and early stage opportunities. Stephen is also a member of the Mercia O2 Committee – offering the benefits of diverse opinions, ideas and points of view.

Previous experience

Graduating from Loughborough University, Stephen has spent the last 10 years supporting Midlands-based businesses in a finance capacity. Prior to joining the Group, Stephen was an investor at the Housing Growth Partnership, investing in small and mid-sized housebuilders across the Midlands. Stephen has also spent time in the Midlands office of Lloyds Bank’s leverage finance team, working on acquisition facilities to support private equity buy outs across a multitude of sectors including telecoms, media and technology, manufacturing, leisure, education, and oil and gas.

Julian joined the Group in 2016 and is the Fund Principal for the Midlands Engine Investment Fund (MEIF) with responsibility for the wider Midlands region. His focus is to invest in high-growth technology businesses across the whole of the area, with a particular focus on the Software & the Internet, and the Electronics, Materials, Manufacturing & Engineering sectors. Julian currently sits on the Board of W2 Global Data, VoxPopMe and Living Map.

Previous experience

Prior to joining the Mercia, Julian was a partner with Technology Venture Partners LLP based in Bristol, which managed the South West Ventures Fund (SWVF). The SWVF primarily invested in early-stage technology-focused businesses and university spinouts in software, electronics, medical diagnostics, telematics and semiconductors. He was an associate director for KPMG Corporate Finance in London and Sydney between 2000 and 2006.

Vicky joined the Group in 2016, working predominantly within the Mercia EIS Funds. She supports the Investment Team with deal preparation and completion, the maintenance of records, and the development, coordination and production of both external and internal reports. Vicky is based at Mercia’s head office in Henley-In-Arden.

Previous experience

Vicky completed a degree in Business Administration at De Montfort University in Leicester before joining Williams de Broë (now Investec Wealth & Investment Ltd) in October 2003. She remained at Investec for almost 13 years, first as an administrator, then as a sales support manager for six years, and finally as a funds development manager for her last four years there.

Karen joined the Group in December 2019 to provide support within the EIS Team. Karen will be responsible for multiple operational tasks, assessing investor suitability, overseeing investment allocations and working with our custodian.

Previous experience

Karen has a strong operational background mainly working in the construction sector but recently moved to the investment sector to pursue a new career. Prior to joining Mercia, Karen was working at Wise Investments supporting the head of investment management, monitoring client portfolios and investments. 

About

Kent is responsible for internal and external financial reporting, covering areas such as management accounts, statutory financial statements, tax filings, budget setting and forecasts. He also has responsibility for ensuring that appropriate financial information, controls, policies and procedures are maintained and adhered to. In addition, Kent will be managing and developing financial models to enhance the financial reporting function as well as driving efficiency savings and improvement initiatives.

Kent is also a member of the Mercia O2 Committee – offering the benefits of diverse opinions, ideas and points of view.

Previous Experience
Kent qualified as a Chartered Accountant in private practice before moving into financial accounting roles within industry. Kent has previous experience working within head office functions with particular expertise in implementing new systems, improving group reporting and strengthening financial reporting processes.

Alice joined the Group on a permanent basis in 2018 after working with Mercia over a number of years on a consultancy basis, during which time she has developed a deep understanding of our CASS operations and, more recently, of the General Data Protection Regulation. A key focus of her role is maintenance of appropriate compliance systems and controls, particularly in relation to client assets, including policies, procedures and monitoring. Alice supports the Group Compliance Director in ensuring that the Group-regulated entities meet FCA and, where appropriate, other regulatory requirements at all times, fostering a strong compliance culture.

Alice has a background in the financial services industry and the business development and funding arena. Most recently, Alice has provided consultancy services to private and public sector entities with a specialism in regulatory oversight and compliance.

Biography

Caroline is a serial entrepreneur who previously co-founded recruitment and innovation consultancy FreshMinds, with clients including Jaguar Land Rover, Vodafone and Google. She remains involved with FreshMinds as non-executive chair and is CEO of Fluidly which she founded in 2016, a venture-backed SaaS business in the fintech space. Caroline was previously an independent panel member of the £2.7billion Regional Growth Fund and served as one of Prime Minister David Cameron’s Business Ambassadors representing the Professional and Business Services sectors.

Caroline was awarded an OBE in the 2016 Birthday Honours’ list for services to business and charity. She has an MEng in engineering, economics and management from Oxford University. Caroline is a serial start-up entrepreneur and is highly effective in bringing her current venture capital investee insights to Mercia’s Board and Strategy meetings.
