Marina is part of Mercia’s VCT investment team and is involved in identifying new investment opportunities, completing transactions and supporting Mercia’s portfolio companies.

Previous experience

Marina joined Mercia in February 2022. Before then, she worked at Oxford University Innovation, where she helped create spinouts, raised investment for these companies and supported them through Board roles. After 8 years in the world of science and tech transfer, Marina has experience in commercialising technologies from various disciplines such as biotech, renewable fuels, energy storage, materials, software, and drug development, among others. She holds a PhD in Chemistry from the University of Nottingham.

About

Ruth is an Investment Associate for Mercia’s EIS Team with a focus on investing in early and growth stage technology companies. Based in London, Ruth’s role focuses on sourcing, transacting, and managing investments for the south east region.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Ruth worked at Grey Innovation in Melbourne, a technology commercialisation company where she led spin out sourcing, early growth, and management. Ruth also worked at HealthXL in Dublin where she advised pharmaceutical companies on their digital health strategies.

Ruth holds a BSc in Biomedical Science from Trinity College and a MSc in Business and Biotherapeutics from Smurfit Business School and University College Dublin.

About

Daniela joined Mercia in 2021 and is responsible for sourcing, transacting and managing investments across all sectors, but has specific interest in technology and life sciences businesses.

Previous experience

Daniela has been a venture capital investor since 2016 and started her career in investment banking in the United States. She has also worked as a Product Manager at the social enterprise d.light design in Kenya. Daniela has a BA in International Politics and Economics from Middlebury College in the USA and an MBA from Oxford University.

About

Graham joined the Group in May 2021 as Company Secretary for Mercia Asset Management Ltd and each of the three Northern Venture Capital Trusts.

Previous experience

Graham joined Mercia from Octopus Investments where he was responsible for providing Company Secretarial services to the Octopus Venture Capital Trusts. Prior to this he was the Head of the investment trust department at Northern Trust, providing third party administration services, including Company secretarial services for thirteen years to the investment trusts.

Graham is a qualified Chartered Company Secretary and a qualified Chartered Accountant. Other roles have included being the financial controller of Close Brothers Investments, the deputy head of the fund accounting department at Morley Fund Management. Graham gained over ten years of auditing experience as an assistant manager at KPMG and as a supervisor at Moore Kingston Smith.

About

James joined the Group in 2021 as Finance Director of Mercia Fund Management Limited and the three Northern Venture Capital Trusts.

Previous experience

James was previously Finance Director, Housing at Gresham House plc, where he was responsible for the London Stock Exchange main market listed REIT Residential Secure Income plc, and several Limited Partnership vehicles.

Prior to Gresham House, James led the team responsible for financial control and reporting at United Trust Bank.

James has a BA in Economics and Management from the University of Oxford and is a Chartered Accountant, having qualified at PwC within its Insurance and Investment Management Assurance division.

Alex is part of Mercia’s VCT investment team and is involved in identifying new investment opportunities, completing transactions and supporting Mercia’s portfolio companies.

Previous experience

Alex joined Mercia in 2021 after seven years in the world of science and technology: first as a science policy advisor for the UK government, and then as a consultant and client manager at IBM. Alex has a first-class undergraduate degree in Biological Sciences from the University of Oxford and an MSc in Science Communication from Imperial College London.

Jake joined Mercia in 2020 as an Investment Associate for Mercia’s EIS Fund team. In addition to research support, origination and execution of early stage investments, Jake undertakes portfolio support across Mercia’s EIS Fund portfolio.

 

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia Jake graduated from the University of Southampton with a degree in Economics. As part of Jake’s degree, he undertook a year placement working at an investment syndicate based in London helping with deal origination and due diligence on investment opportunities. Jake has also worked with a startup accelerator where he led the management of investment readiness programmes and helped advise portfolio companies in closing further funding rounds post programme.

 

About

Srikar is an Investment Manager for Mercia’s EIS Team with a focus on investing in early and growth-stage software and digital companies. In addition to deal origination and execution, Srikar sits on the board of a number of companies within Mercia’s EIS portfolio.

Previous experience

Srikar joined Mercia in 2018 as a Research Analyst for Mercia’s Platform team after graduating from LSE with a Maths and Economics degree. As part of this role he worked closely with Exec team on Mercia’s acquisition of NVM’s VCTs and producing valuation reports for Mercia’s direct investment holdings.
