Paul joined the Group in 2017 as an Investment Manager in the NPIF – Mercia Debt Team, and has over 30 years’ experience in banking and asset finance. He is focused on supporting small and medium-sized businesses to achieve their growth ambitions and fulfil their potential. He mainly covers the Humber area and Sheffield City region.

Previous experience

Paul joined NatWest from school, and whilst always living in East Yorkshire he has enjoyed a varied career working with a diverse range of businesses of all sizes across the North of England and Scotland. For several years, he led a team of banking experts who were successful in supporting businesses through the tough economic environment and so understands the challenges faced by SMEs on a daily basis. Paul holds the Chartered Banker Diploma in lending skills.

Pete joined the Group in 2017 and has over 30 years’ lending experience. He is Investment Director for NPIF – Mercia Debt Finance, focusing on delivering the Fund into Sheffield City region.

Pete is also a member of the Mercia Spirit Committee, a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives.

Previous experience

Prior to joining the Group, Pete was with RBS where his final role was director for Commercial Banking in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, running the bank’s relationship management team across that area. Experienced in lending to the SME sector, he spent six months seconded to the bank’s lending programme project in 2013, in response to the challenge of increasing its performance in this area. Prior to that he held the role of relationship director in commercial banking, working directly with the SME sector in the same area. Pete has worked with the SME community in and around the region since 1996.

Andy joined the group in 2020 as an Investment Manager in the NPIF- Mercia Debt team, and has over 36 years experience in Corporate and Commercial Banking.He is focused on supporting small and medium sized businesses to achieve their future plans and to fulfil their potential. He mainly covers the Sheffield City Region and the wider South Yorkshire towns.

Previous experience

Andy joined NatWest/RBS from school and has worked in a wide variety of roles across all the major towns and cities in South & West Yorkshire. For over 25 years he has been a frontline Relationship Manager working with businesses and their owners, so he understands the challenges faced in both good and tough economic cycles. Andy is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers and has a Diploma in Lending Skills.

About

Ashwin joined the Group in 2008, and has over  ten years’ venture capital experience. He is responsible for a number of technology investments including Faradion and SureCore; he is a member of the NPIF – Mercia Equity Team and part of the Electronics, Materials, Manufacturing & Engineering sector Investment Team. He has been involved in all aspects of creating venture-backed businesses, including sourcing new opportunities, working with founders and management teams to build valuable propositions.

Previous experience

Ashwin worked at IP Group plc, commercialising intellectual property from UK universities, and at ITI Scotland, analysing technology markets. He started his career as a technology entrepreneur in Semiconductor industry. Ashwin holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electronics and Communication from Bangalore University, an MSc in System Level Integration from Edinburgh University, and was a Chevening Technology Enterprise Fellow in 2004/05. During his Chevening fellowship he was part of a business training programme, jointly run by London Business School, Cambridge University and Imperial College, focusing on taking early-stage technologies to market.

David joined Finance South Yorkshire (now part of the Group) in 2008 and is part of the Finance Yorkshire Portfolio team. He is the Portfolio Manager with responsibility for monitoring the performance and realisation of the business loans on the Finance Yorkshire Investment Fund mainly covering the Yorkshire area. As investments into SMEs from NPIF increase, David’s team will be responsible for the monitoring and recovery of these funds also.

Previous experience

ACIB qualified, David’s career spans over 40 years in banking with the Co-operative Bank in various roles, including managing a number of bank branches in Yorkshire before becoming corporate banking manager for South Yorkshire.

Emma joined Finance Yorkshire Seedcorn Fund (now part of the Group) in 2010 as an Investment Executive. She is now a member of the NPIF – Mercia Equity Team investing in South Yorkshire and is focused on early-stage technology and non-technology investments from NPIF Equity. Emma also manages a portfolio of companies from across the Group.

Previous experience

Emma previously spent 14 years working in private accountancy practices across Sheffield, having held a number of positions at BHP Chartered Accountants and Hart Shaw Chartered Accountants specialising in audit, accounts, healthcare and trusts. Emma holds ACCA qualifications from Sheffield Hallam University and is fully AAT qualified, having completed AAT levels 1-4.
