Lisa joined the Group in 2011 as a member of the Investment Team focused on the North West Fund for Mezzanine and Venture Capital aimed at start-up and early-stage businesses where she was responsible for new investments and portfolio businesses. Today, Lisa heads up our portfolio resourcing functions and leads the NED networks.

Lisa is also a member of the Mercia Spirit Committee a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives.

Previous experience

Before joining the Group, Lisa worked for the business growth services team Grant Thornton, where she was responsible for a number of finance readiness and business support programmes, particularly in the healthcare and life science sectors. Lisa has a science and technology background, with a BSc (Hons) in Human Bioscience from Sheffield Hallam University.

Michelle joined the Group in September 2017 and heads up our People & Talent Team. She is responsible for creating and driving forward our people strategy, engagement and processes as Mercia continues to evolve.

Previous experience

Michelle’s generalist HR career spans 25 years, having spent most of these years working in the technology sector, for entrepreneurial businesses with ambitious growth plans. Michelle is driven by delivering the best possible employee experience.

Pete joined the Group in 2017 and has over 30 years’ lending experience. He is Investment Director for NPIF – Mercia Debt Finance, focusing on delivering the Fund into Sheffield City region.

Pete is also a member of the Mercia Spirit Committee, a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives.

Previous experience

Prior to joining the Group, Pete was with RBS where his final role was director for Commercial Banking in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire, running the bank’s relationship management team across that area. Experienced in lending to the SME sector, he spent six months seconded to the bank’s lending programme project in 2013, in response to the challenge of increasing its performance in this area. Prior to that he held the role of relationship director in commercial banking, working directly with the SME sector in the same area. Pete has worked with the SME community in and around the region since 1996.

Peter Rooney joined the Group in 2014 and negotiates new investments on behalf of the SME Loans Fund. He is responsible both for sourcing investment opportunities across the region and assessing their suitability from a performance perspective prior to investment. Peter is based in the Preston office, and works with small to medium and start-up companies in and around the Lancashire region.

Peter is also a member of the Mercia Spirit Committee, a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives and Mercia O2 Committee – offering the benefits of diverse opinions, ideas and points of view.

Previous experience

Prior to joining the Group, Peter has worked with Barclays PLC, and held numerous positions in several disciplines, managing businesses in both the SME and corporate arenas. He has worked with clients in both public and private sectors across a number of different areas including manufacturing, not for profit and professional services.

Thea joined the Group in 2018 and is an Investment Associate for the North East Venture Fund (NEVF). Thea’s role includes sourcing and executing early stage deals across Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, in addition to providing research and portfolio management support.

Thea is a member of the Mercia Responsible Investment Committee – a group-wide team committed to delivering the ESG strategy across the business and she is also a member of the Mercia Spirit Committee, a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Thea worked in risk and investment operations for BMO Global Asset Management. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from Durham University.

Vicky joined the Group in 2016, working predominantly within the Mercia EIS Funds. She supports the Investment Team with deal preparation and completion, the maintenance of records, and the development, coordination and production of both external and internal reports. Vicky is based at Mercia’s head office in Henley-In-Arden.

Previous experience

Vicky completed a degree in Business Administration at De Montfort University in Leicester before joining Williams de Broë (now Investec Wealth & Investment Ltd) in October 2003. She remained at Investec for almost 13 years, first as an administrator, then as a sales support manager for six years, and finally as a funds development manager for her last four years there.

Courtney is Executive Assistant to our CEO and the Senior Leadership Team, managing their diaries, travel and expenses.  Courtney also provides administration support to the Compliance and Finance teams and plays an important role in the support of the Investment Team by maintaining the Share Register.

Courtney’s role has also expanded to being our Facilities Coordinator, IOSH qualified to look after the day to day running of our Head office in Henley in Arden and our busy regional offices.

In 2019 we launched our charitable venture Mercia Spirit, a group-wide programme translating our values into worthy initiatives, which Courtney Chairs.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Courtney gained extensive experience of office management, working at two of her family businesses, covering areas from payroll and pensions, credit control and invoicing, HR, and liaising personally with the customers and suppliers.

Hannah is part of the marketing team, having joined the Group in 2017. She is responsible for event coordination and design, as well as marketing and social media. Her role involves coordinating events that are either hosted by Mercia or attended by a team member and creating graphics and design used across the group. Hannah is based in the Manchester office.

Previous experience

After graduating from De Montfort University with a degree in Psychology and Media Studies, Hannah lived abroad for seven years, spending the majority of that time in Beijing, where she worked as an editor and curriculum designer. She also set up her own events company that worked with venues in Beijing and Tianjin. Hannah relocated back to the UK in 2015, and worked at The Manchester College for a year as an editor.
