Melanie joined the Group in 2011 as an Investment Executive providing support to EV SME Loans, the RisingStars Growth Funds, Coalfields Growth and the EV Growth Funds Investment Teams which are able to invest in businesses across the UK and in a variety of sectors. Based in Manchester, she is responsible for supporting portfolio management and as such takes responsibility for coordinating the investment process, monitoring portfolio companies during the Fund’s involvement, and also reporting to Fund investors.

Previous experience

Melanie has a background working within the finance and audit function, with a particular focus on governance and compliance. She has previously supported large Government contracts within the Welfare to Work Sector, ensuring the business operated within the parameters of the contracts it managed.

Michelle joined the Group in September 2017 and heads up our People & Talent Team. She is responsible for creating and driving forward our people strategy, engagement and processes as Mercia continues to evolve.

Previous experience

Michelle’s generalist HR career spans 25 years, having spent most of these years working in the technology sector, for entrepreneurial businesses with ambitious growth plans. Michelle is driven by delivering the best possible employee experience.

Rebecca joined the Group in June 2018 and is based at our office in Henley-in-Arden. Rebecca plays a key supporting role in our People & Talent team.

Previous experience

Rebecca has over 15 years of HR and recruitment experience in the professional services sector, including one of the ‘big four’ accounting firms. Rebecca has also worked across the information technology services and engineering sectors; her most recent role was working for a company supporting manufacturing based in the West Midlands. This was a generalist human resources role, with a particular emphasis on recruitment and onboarding.

Thea joined the Group in 2018 and is an Investment Associate for the North East Venture Fund (NEVF). Thea’s role includes sourcing and executing early stage deals across Durham, Northumberland and Tyne and Wear, in addition to providing research and portfolio management support.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Thea worked in risk and investment operations for BMO Global Asset Management. She holds a BA (Hons) degree in History from Durham University.

Val joined Finance South Yorkshire (now part of the Group) in 2010 as an Investment Administrator within the business loans team based in Yorkshire. She has over 10 years’ experience in fund administration. Val is responsible for administering the day-to-day workload pertaining to pre and post-investment activity, gathering of economic outputs to collate into monthly and quarterly reports, and the diary management and coordination of communication within the NPIF – Mercia Debt Team, which covers Yorkshire and the Humber.

Previous experience

Val spent three years working for YFM Group on its Partnership Investment Finance campaign, where she was responsible for all administrative and PA support and production of analytical reports, as well as managing a small office and subsequent close down procedures of the satellite office at the end of the fund. Her previous background was mainly in line management and administrative support for the retail sector, where training and development was a large part of the role.

Vicky joined the Group in 2016, working predominantly within the Mercia EIS Funds. She supports the Investment Team with deal preparation and completion, the maintenance of records, and the development, coordination and production of both external and internal reports. Vicky is based at Mercia’s head office in Henley-In-Arden and is a member of the Mercia Knowledge Committee.

Previous experience

Vicky completed a degree in Business Administration at De Montfort University in Leicester before joining Williams de Broë (now Investec Wealth & Investment Ltd) in October 2003. She remained at Investec for almost 13 years, first as an administrator, then as a sales support manager for six years, and finally as a funds development manager for her last four years there.

Abbie joined the Group in 2017 to provide office management support and general day-to-day administrative and PA duties. She also works closely with the Investment Teams for the North West Funds, and carries out the fund administration duties for the North West Fund for Venture Capital and North West Fund for Mezzanine. Based in the Manchester office, she is the first point of contact for telephone enquiries and is responsible for logging and reviewing applications submitted through our website.

Previous experience

Abbie has a strong background in administration and experience working in financial services, having worked in SIPP administration and providing support to independent financial advisors in preparing client investment review reports. Abbie holds a degree in English Language and Linguistics from the University of Sheffield.

Courtney is Executive Assistant to our CEO and the Senior Leadership Team, managing their diaries, travel and expenses.  Courtney also provides administration support to the Compliance and Finance teams and plays an important role in the support of the Investment Team by maintaining the Share Register.

Courtney’s role has also expanded to being our Facilities Coordinator, IOSH qualified to look after the day to day running of our Head office in Henley in Arden and our seven busy regional offices.

In 2019 we launched our charitable venture Mercia Spirit of which Courtney is Chair.

Previous experience

Prior to joining Mercia, Courtney gained extensive experience of office management, working at two of her family businesses, covering areas from payroll and pensions, credit control and invoicing, HR, and liaising personally with the customers and suppliers.

Graham has almost ten years’ experience in venture capital. He joined Mercia in 2011 and is a member of the NPIF – Mercia Equity Team. He is focused on early-stage and technology investments and manages a portfolio of companies from the Finance Yorkshire Seedcorn Fund. Graham is also Head of Mercia’s Information Systems function and a member of the Mercia Knowledge Committee.

Previous experience

Graham previously spent several years building and managing high technology investment opportunities as a venture manager at the University of Manchester Intellectual Property (UMIP) Ltd. He has a science and technology background, with a PhD in Molecular Biology from the University of Edinburgh, and worked for several years as a post-doc in Los Angeles, California. He holds an MBA from Alliance Manchester Business School and helped form and grow a bioinformatics spinout company after his PhD.

Georgina joined the Group in 2019 to provide office management support and general day-to-day administrative duties. Georgina assists in the smooth running of the Manchester office and is responsible for logging applications submitted through our website.

Previous experience

Georgina has a strong background in human resources having worked in both recruitment and employee relations for the past seven years. Prior to joining Mercia, Georgina was working for the NHS recruiting frontline staff.
