This is a fantastic opportunity to join our operations team as IT Support Manager, being responsible for the day-to-day management of IT services and applications, as well as responding to requests for business illustrations, reporting, and business analytics in order to help the business achieve its overall strategy and goals. This is a key role for the Group as we explore our changing IT/Systems needs of the business. Initially a temporary role, this will be a full-time office-based position, working closely with our Chief Operating Officer and Head of Information Systems.

This role is Midlands based and you will be required to have unrestricted use of a car and maintain a current driving licence enabling you to drive in the UK.

We are looking for a highly motivated IT/systems expert who has the drive, ability and knowledge to ensure that we are set up for success as we continue to grow. You will work with our 3rd party/outsourced IT provider and lead on various internal IT/systems projects. This requires a strong technical background as you will play a pivotal role in enhancing our IT/systems operations.

In this role you would have responsibility for:

  • Evidencing continuous improvement in our systems/IT function and managing the day-to-day operations of systems/IT across the Group.
  • Coordinating, communicating, and working with our external service providers.
  • Ensuring we are using the functionality of our current IT systems and tools consistently across the Group, including MS Office 365.
  • Working across the Group to assess technical requirements and manage requests, creating clear specifications for any new systems/hardware/software.
  • Leading on the implementation of new IT systems, processes, and technologies and taking the lead on training and supporting IT /systems ‘super-users’.
  • Ensuring that our systems are secure and backed up regularly.
  • Identifying areas where improvements can be made in order to increase efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Managing our software licenses and relationships with IT suppliers.
  • Working with our Facilities Coordinator to ensure that the technology in our offices and used by the team operates smoothly, including our office telephone system, photocopiers, printers and mobile phones.
  • Working with our Facilities Coordinator to manage our hardware inventory.
  • Working with the People & Talent Team, assisting with the onboarding of new joiners to ensure they receive the IT/Systems training needed and are set up ready for Day 1 and beyond.
  • Visiting our offices regularly and working with our office coordinators, supporting all of the IT requirements in meeting room spaces across the UK.
  • Managing pending office moves and projects from an IT/systems perspective.
  • Bringing together the requirements of the Group and creating a central place for everyone to share key company information, documents and tools for roll-out across the Group.
  • Working with the Chief Operating Officer on relevant IT/Systems budgeting requirements.

What skills/experience are we looking for?


  • Experience of setting up and managing a SharePoint environment for a mid size company.
  • Demonstrable experience of being responsible for IT/systems/technology across multiple office locations.
  • Experience in an IT support role for a growing organisation (with at least 250 people), in an environment where you are used to rolling up your sleeves.
  • Experience of supporting in a continuous improvement role, challenging current thinking and establishing new ways of working.
  • Comfortable working with 3rd parties.
  • Overseeing IT asset management and procurement and able to negotiate contracts and best rates with suppliers.
  • Experienced in building dashboards and presenting information for companywide use.
  • Demonstrable project management experience.
  • Strong collaboration and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships at all levels.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • A keen eye for detail, with a strong problem-solving mindset.
  • A great team player with the ability to adopt/promote a ‘One Mercia’ approach.
  • Articulate technical information in simple English that is easily understood by senior management.
  • Understanding of Cloud infrastructure and the use of virtual machines within these environments.
  • Knowledge of MS Server Technologies and databases.
  • Ability to manipulate and present business data in a powerful and easy-to-understand format using MS Power BI, Tableau, Crystal Reports, etc.

  • Have the unrestricted use of a car and maintain a current driving licence enabling you to drive in the UK – there will be regular travel to other Mercia offices required, so you should have flexibility to travel sometimes at short notice.


  • Prince 2 Foundation/Practitioner certification.
  • Some knowledge of investment management and/or financial services.

What we can offer you:

The base salary range is £30k – £45k depending on experience.
