Two businesses backed by Enterprise Ventures SME Loans have been honoured at Insider’s annual Made in Yorkshire Awards, which rewards the most ambitious and innovative companies from across the region.
Winder Power won Manufacturer of the Year (under £25m) for the second consecutive year and Weedfree on Track received the Advanced Manufacturer/ Technology Award. Both of the companies are part of Enterprise Ventures’ portfolio and have been rapidly growing from strength to strength.
Leeds-based Winder Power is the leading UK manufacturer of power and distribution transformers and generator equipment, and serves a wide range of customers in the utilities, renewable energy, and industrial sectors across the UK and internationally. Last year, Winder Power increased its turnover by 30% and increased its workforce by 15% following its expansion. Almost all of its profits have been reinvested into the business to increase manufacturing capacity by up to 40%.
While Weedfree on Track, based in Huddersfield, specialises in weed control on railway networks and operates its own advanced weed control train which uses environmentally efficient technology to spray railway tracks. The company provides weed control and de-vegetation services to European state railways and has been commissioned to develop a second train to support its expanding operations in Europe and Scandinavia.
