Sean has joined Mercia Ventures as an Investment Manager to help deploy the East of England Investment Fund.
Sean spent most of his career inside businesses rather than investing in them, so looks at opportunities from the inside out. Having been a founder himself, he knows that building a business is rarely quite as straightforward as the pitch deck suggests. He enjoys getting to know founders quickly, understanding what makes them tick and building the sort of relationship where Mercia Ventures can be supportive.
Background
Sean spent around a decade founding and running his own businesses, growing them to more than £4 million turnover, raising external finance and ultimately completing an exit. He subsequently held Chief Commercial Officer and Interim CEO roles, working across commercial strategy, operations, restructuring, and growth.
More recently, through Innovate UK and Scale Up New Anglia, he worked with hundreds of early-stage and scaling businesses across a wide range of sectors, helping founders develop their commercial models, secure investment and turn growth plans into practical action. That breadth of experience is what he now brings to Mercia Ventures: understanding businesses quickly, spotting where value can be created and working alongside founders to help realise it.
